The one-subject master's program in social science deals in depth with matters of sociology, social psychology and social anthropology, political science and social policy, and methods of empirical social research. By choosing a program of study, specialization occurs in a cross-sectional area.
There are also programs in the two-subject M.A.: social science with a field of study in sociology, political science, or social psychology. The faculty is also affiliated with the two-subject M.A. programs: Master of Education Social Science, Gender Studies, and European Culture and Economy (ECUE).

The Master of Education degree program in the subject of social science replaces the former teacher training program and conveys subject-specific didactic content in addition to subject-specific academic content.

The school board passed the following resolution on this matter at its meeting on February 01, 2022 (content translation):
„A transfer to the Master of Education program requires (1) that all examinations and assignments in the bachelor's program have been completed and passed by September 30 (in the case of transfer to the winter semester) or March 31 (in the case of transfer to the summer semester). The transfer to the Master of Education program takes place (2) no later than November 30 for the winter semester and no later than May 31 for the summer semester of each year. Later transfers are only possible in cases of hardship (e.g. delays in the evaluation of the bachelor's thesis, cancelled examinations, etc.) upon application of the student to the GPA-M.Ed.".
