Sebastian Salzmann

Sebastian Salzmann studied Social Science, History and Philosophy at the Ruhr-University Bochum and worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Social Theory and Social Psychology from April 2020 to June 2022. After finishing his work as a research assistant (2014-2018), he previously taught cultural psychology as a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences from April 2019 to March 2020.

As a research assistant of the chair, he worked (in cooperation with VFB Salzwedel e.V.) for the empirical research project "Dynamics of (Self-)Exclusion and Democracy Mediation. Multimodal Studies in the Field of Municipal Conflict Counseling", which is funded by the AMIFs of the European Union as well as by the BAMF. Further co-funders are the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony.
Since September 2020, Sebastian Salzmann has been a research assistant at the Junior Professorship for Didactics of Social Science Education (Prof. Dr. Karim Fereidooni) at the Ruhr University Bochum. In this function, he is working in a cooperative project of the aforementioned junior professorship, the Institute for Diaspora and Genocide Research and the Professorship for Gender Studies on the topic of "Anti-Semitism as a Social Phenomenon in the Institution of School" (funded by the Ministry for School and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Anti-Semitism Commissioner of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia).

His dissertation, supervised by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Straub, deals with discourses of cultural decline in various global contexts.

His further research and interests include in particular social and cultural psychology; conflict and violence research; anti-Semitism research; history and transmission of political ideologies; phenomenological theory of action; theory and practice of historical-political education; qualitative methods of social research; art theory.

As a founding and board member of Bagrut. Verein zur Förderung demokratischen Bewusstseins e.V., he has been active since 2016 in historical-political education with a focus on the prevention of anti-Semitism and the promotion of democracy.
