Dr. Ismail Küpeli is the project coordinator at the Ruhr University Bochum responsible for the Dersim 1937/38 project. As part of the project, which is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, video interviews with those affected by state violence in the context of the so-called Dersim massacres of 1937/38 are to be edited and published.

He previously completed his doctorate at the University of Cologne with the dissertation "Die kurdische Frage in der Türkei. Über die gewaltsame Durchsetzung von Nationalstaatlichkeit". His research focuses on nationalism, racism and anti-Semitism - both in the majority societies and within the respective minorities.
