Heike Kahlert is Chair of Sociology/Social Inequality and Gender at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum since August 2014. She is also affiliated member of the Center for Feminist Social Studies (CFS) at Örebro University in Sweden since 2012.

From 2011 until 2013 she was acting professor for Sociology with a focus on Social Developments and Structures (formerly Prof. Dr. Ulrich Beck) at the Department of Sociology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. She was also visiting professor at the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies in Sweden (2013) and at the Centre of Gender Excellence – Gendering Excellence (GEXcel) at the universities of Örebro and Linköping in Sweden (2011–2012). Beforehand, she was visiting professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies at the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Goettingen and University of Hildesheim (Maria-Goeppert-Mayer-Programme for International Women’s and Gender Research, 2008–2009) as well as at the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg in Austria (2007). She has also been working as research assistant and project leader at the Universities of Hamburg, Greifswald, Rostock and Hildesheim.

Heike Kahlert completed her habilitation with teaching qualification at professorial level for sociology at the University of Hildesheim. She holds a doctor of social sciences from the University of Bielefeld and a diploma in sociology from the University of Hamburg.

She also has a diploma in supervision (university of applied sciences [FH]) and a certificate for management consultation from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Hannover. Additionally, she got the certificate "Teaching qualification in academia and advanced training" from the University of Hamburg.
