In addition to the University Library (UB), there are various specialist libraries of the individual faculties. Books can be borrowed with the student ID card, whereby the subject libraries largely have a reference stock - this means that the books cannot be borrowed or can only be borrowed over the weekend.

Opening hours UB:

  • Monday to Friday 8am - 9pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 10am - 7pm

Information-/ Servicedesk:

  • Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm
  • Saturday 10am - 4pm

At the beginning of each semester, guided tours for first-year students take place. At these tours information are provided about the literature supply at the RUB, the user conditions of the university library, the catalogues for literature research, and about the internet workstations. The university library also offers numerous events during the semester.

Musical Centre Musisches Zentrum (website in German)

The Musical Centre is the university's central musical institution where non-academic musical events (art, music, theatre) take place. Academic degrees/ achievements cannot be obtained at the Musical Centre. Students who wish to take part in courses or events should register directly at the Musical Centre. Information about registration, current events and programmes is available directly at the Musical Centre or its website. For musicians, there are three practice rooms, each equipped with a piano, where students can practise on their own instruments they have brought with them.

Art Collections at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (website)
In the art collections of the Ruhr-Universtiät Bochum on the campus, both modern art (Sammlung Moderne, website in German) and art of antiquity (Sammlung Antike, website in German) are exhibited. The entry is free.

Botanical Garden (website)

"Whether you are out to explore the fascinating diversity of plants from all over the world or whether you just want some peace and quiet in nature, the Botanic Garden of the Ruhr-University Bochum is a beautiful exotic oasis that's worth a visit at all year round." The Botanical Garden is located directly below the Mensa. In the Botanical Garden, you can discover the large show houses and the Chinese Garden in the park and garden area. Admission is free for both the Botanical Garden and the Chinese Garden. Opening hours and further information can be found on the Botanical Garden websites.

University Sports Bochum (website)

Numerous types of sport and training are offered for RUB students. All important information, offers and registration conditions can be found on the university sports website.

Study Group Film Studienkreis Film (website in German)

The cinema of Studienkreis Film (SKF) is located in the big lecture hall centre Hörsaalzentrum Ost (HZO), room HZO 20. Film screenings (often in original versions) take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7.30 pm. Admission prices, Eintrittspreise, current events, programme you find on the SKF websites.
