PhD in Gender Studies

Within (the context of) the Gender Lab, the Marie Jahoda Center aims to create a stimulating research environment for Gender Studies at the RUB. The interdisciplinary research profile, especially anchored in the field of cultural and social sciences, is clearly contoured and consistently made available for collaborative projects. Early career researchers also play a strong role in the Marie Jahoda Center.

Both Gender Studies programmes in Bochum prepare students for an academic career and for taking up a doctorate. At the RUB, the PhD in Gender Studies is conducted at the Faculty of Philology. The degree of Dr. phil. is awarded. In addition, it is possible to do a doctorate in other disciplines (e.g. media studies or history) with a research focus on Gender Studies.

All doctoral students at the Ruhr-University Bochum are automatically members of the RUB Research School. Here, doctoral candidates find a wide range of offers for the best possible realisation of their research project as well as a continuous exchange with other doctoral candidates.

The event series Young Gender Scholars meet... offers an insight into  everyday work of researchers. Within the framework of workshops it brings students, doctoral candidates, risings stars of gender research and established scientists together and creates an exciting research dialogue. The focus is on the research work of the doctoral students.
