Biography

Johanna Kantola works as a research fellow in gender studies in the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Her research is focussed on understanding different gender policies in Europe, the feminist movement and the feminist theory of the state. Her research project, “Feminized actors of masculine institutions? Gender, power and party politics in Finland”, analyses the Europeanisation of Finnish gender policy. She is a member of a number of international research networks and has a prominent role in European gender studies. From 2007 to 2009 she was the co-convener of the European Consortium for Political Research Standing Group on Gender and Politics. Kantola is also a board member of various Finnish organisations, such as the Coalition of Finnish Women’s Associations.
